STOMPERS GOING TO DC FOR HOEDOWN AND 4TH OF JULY

The Columbus Stompers are headed to Washington, DC, for Independence Day weekend! The International Association of Gay and Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC) is hosting its annual convention and dance competition in the nation's capital. "Stomps & Stripes Forever!" will be at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, July 3rd through 5th.

The Columbus Stompers will join dance teams from all over the world for a rockin' hoedown. Social dancing is on the agenda each night... but all eyes will be on the weekend's main attraction, the annual dance competition on Saturday. The Stompers are fielding two teams this year, one in the Open Division and one in the Line Dancing Division.

And it's for a good cause. IAGLCWDC's 2009 Convention will help raise much-needed funds for the Mary-Helen Mautner Project for Lesbians with Cancer, "Brother, Help Thyself" (a Washington-area GLBT and HIV/AIDS services organization), and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network.

It's not too late! You can still get tickets to the hoedown... but get your room reservations before the great rates are gone!

TEAMS IN TRAINING FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

(Feb 2009 - Columbus) Two teams of Columbus Stompers are tearing up the dance floors, practicing for another huge, international competition. For 2009, the Stompers are fielding teams in the Open and Line Dancing Divisions. Each team is working with new choreography and stepping to new soundtracks.

Rehearsals for the Open Team began in early 2009. Line Dance Team practices launched in February. It takes months to prepare for the competition, especially when expectations are high.

Lewie Melandra choreographs for a team of nearly two dozen Stompers who hope to earn another First Place win (and make it two-in-a-row) at this year's international hoedown in Washington, DC. Tony Farrell and Dean Cox are leading a brand new team for the Line Dance Division. With nearly a score of dancers, they're sure to make a splash when they take over the dance floor!

Stay tuned for updates!

STOMPER NEWS

NOW THAT'S A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR!

(Dec 2008 - Columbus) For years, the Fred Astaire Dance Studio has been the home base for the Columbus Stompers' dance teams. They practice there at least once a week... several times a week as performance time looms. And the studio has been gracious enough to donate the space.

It's payback time. The studio needed a new paint job and the Stompers pitched in to make it happen. Dozens of team members and supporters swarmed the studio on a Sunday afternoon, wielding paint brushes, rollers and spackle. In just a few hours, the studio had a couple of fresh coats of paint and a whole new look.

Thanks Fred Astaire Dance Studio!
